Vintage lace wedding dresses - you find one for less than $100. Is it too good to be true? It all depends on the repairs according to Nancy Eaton, author of “Your Vintage Wedding." Obviously, anything under the dress - no harm done. Missing buttons, broken zippers and loose seams shouldn't keep you from buying that lovely vintage wedding dress. Visible underarm stains - don't even think about it!   Here are some valuable tips for buying a vintage wedding dress or gown and I'd like to add one of my own. Don't assume that a trip to your favorite dry cleaners will change or brighten the overall appearance of the dress, especially with fabric that is 25 years old or more. Sometimes pearls "dissolve" in the cleaning process and leave a small spot that can't be removed.

EASY TO REPAIR
· Rusted or missing buttons
· Ripped trains
· Torn undernetting
· Missing beads
· Missing or damaged pearls
· Broken zippers
· Tears on seams
· Some pulls in the fabric
· Minor lace tears

USUALLY NOT REPAIRABLE
· Split or “shattered” silk
· Dry rot in fabric or lace (fabric is dry and brittle)
· Badly torn lace
· Rust stains
· Visible stains or dirt in conspicuous places
· Tears, holes or burns in visible places
· Visible underarm stains

ACCEPT THESE MINOR DEFECTS AS IS
· Hem dirt
· Water staining on the hem or train
· Inconspicuous stains
· Inconspicuous small holes
· Minor scratches, scuffs, or pulls
