Wedding Emergency Kits

Wedding emergency kits - everything you need is on this list from scissors to hand sanitizer. Scissors? Someone might need a quick trim six minutes before the ceremony. Granola Bars? Skip this and you probably don't need the floss. Super Glue? I don't even want to know why. Every emergency from a busted zipper to an unwelcome case of bad breath definitely calls for ice cold (preferably Dom Perignon) champagne. No argument there. Pop the cork and you'll soon forget that it took more time to assemble all of these emergency items than it did to plan your wedding from beginning to end.

Wedding Coloring Pages

You love children and so do I. Toddlers in tuxedos. Kids in the Conga Line.  Your eager young nieces and nephews deserve to witness this wonderful day. Looking for wedding ideas that include children? Download these free wedding coloring sheets at Lee Hansen and Coloring Book Fun. More kid-friendly wedding ideas include asking the DJ to play a few popular children’s songs - think Disney movie music - and having a “kids only” dance. Coloring pages will make them feel welcome and well occupied. Don't forget an eight-count box of crayons, stickers, and (especially in summer) an ice cold juice box.

Retro Wedding Dresses by Candy Anthony

Sweet, short and sassy - I love theses retro style wedding dresses from London based designer Candy Anthony. Perfectly made tulle petticoats, flattering sweetheart necklines and dresses made with duchess satin, and vintage inspired trimmings such as traditional Nottingham Lace. Established in 2004, a small but dedicated staff hand cuts each dress and - within 3 to 6 months - these tea length bridal dresses looking like fabulous wedding fashion from 1954, are available in subtle shades of white, ivory, blush, taupe and oyster.

99 Cent Wedding Favors

Less than 99 cents. A great price if you're hosting over 100 well-loved family and friends from Boston to Baton Rouge. I found this cookie wedding favor idea on Evermine (no financial reason to promote them, but love their blog including free wedding printables and lots of great DIY ideas). Nothing high and mighty about these cookies. No messy royal icing needed or cake decorating bags and tips. But the neat cellophane bags and labels make them look professionally made. (Check out the lovely oval label at back!) Tucked inside are cookies lovingly baked in your Mom or sister's kitchen just two days before.

The labels on these DIY cookie favors (any rolled cookie recipe
recipe will do nicely) are priced as follows:  large cellophane bag (16 cents each),
circle label (40 cents) and 11 cents for the small oval shaped label at back.

Couture Bridal Shoes

Badgley Mischka created a breathtakingly beautiful line of couture bridal shoes. It would break my heart to wear these peep toe heels only once. Who are Mark Badgley and his partner, James Mischka? A pair of talented designers who came together in 1988 to create everything from shoes to swimwear based on their passion for 1940s Hollywood glamour. The decoration at back is a stunning design of sparkling round, oval, and marquise cut rhinestones - slightly unique to each pair of shoes. This exquisite pair of vintage inspired satin heels ("Dawn") are 4 1/2 inches high and have a price tag of $245.

Short Bridesmaid Dresses

I found these stunning short chiffon bridesmaid dresses, available in lovely shades of blush, coral, peacock, wine, eggplant (shown here), expresso and navy (just to name a few) at Kennedy Blue for $155. The strapless bridesmaid dress "Sydney" features a figure-flattering sweetheart neckline and ruched boned bodice, and is made for women in every size from 0 to 24. Worried about buying bridesmaid dresses online? Kennedy Blue boasts a very forgiving return policy as long as items are received within 14 days of purchase (with a return request), in original packaging and with tags still attached.

Fondant Wedding Cakes

I’ll be honest. I’m not fond of fondant. Butter is better and cream is supreme. But even a buttercream icing junkie like myself can’t deny the smooth-as-silk perfection of wedding cakes made with fondant icing. Below is a hand-painted wedding cake by Melonie (Mel) Stanger of For Goodness Cakes. The asymmetrical placement of fondant pleats create a sense of movement, and are painted in pretty shades of pink, peach and blue with a lovely matching lotus flower.

Mermaid Wedding Gowns

Mermaid wedding gowns - lovely to look at but a little tricky moving about on the dance floor. Unless you find one that flares out above the knee and is referred to as "fit and flair." Galia Lahav is a Russian born designer you may already be familiar with if you were crazy about the dance costumes on season seven of "Dancing With The Stars." My heart and soul belongs to The Empress Collection, an ethereal series of fit and flair gowns made with luxurious Italian silk fabrics and intricate French lace. This classic collection reflects both drama and comfort, and the silhouettes are sleek, slimming and sensual.

Romantic Lace Wedding Dresses by Claire Pettibone

Delicate lace wedding dresses - created with embroidered European laces in an ethereal, romantic style. It all began when Claire Pettibone started out designing luxurious lingerie and then transitioned into bridal wear in 2005. Her bohemian style dresses are unfussy and unconventional. Perfect for rustic, vineyard and garden themed weddings. When Facebook founder Mark Zuckerman married Priscilla Chan, she chose a gown from Claire Pettibone, called “Sky Between the Branches,” an Asian inspired dress with a low-cut back and embroidered lace over silk charmeuse.  Claire evidently views a woman's back as one of the most sensual parts of her body, and I totally agree.
