Plantable seed place cards - these are made of biodegradable eco-paper. That means no waste, no worry! I'm all for that. The paper is made with post-consumer materials and you can make them yourself with any and all of the things you already have around the house: newspapers, boxes (pre-soaked), greeting cards, paper grocery bags, copy paper, unused paper napkins, envelopes and receipts. Embedded with fresh wildflower seeds, all you need is a pot, good potting soil, water and a nice sunny spot. As the seeds grow, the paper composts into the soil. All that is left behind is flowers or herbs - basil, mint and thyme work very well. Here's a great guide on how to make homemade plantable seed paper.

A moist and delicious banana bread recipe is always handy for bridal showers, luncheons and family get-togethers. Especially one this easy. This recipe is loaded with fresh banana flavor - about 5 medium sized bananas will yield the 2 1/3 cups - but a little more or less should be just fine. For a healthier banana bread just substitute 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup applesauce instead of 1/2 cup butter and use whole wheat pastry flour instead of white. I'm nuts about nuts and if you are too, try adding 3/4 to one cup of walnuts for added flavor and texture. If you prefer banana muffins, this recipe will yield about 12 good sized muffins baked at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. Mix the ingredients carefully - use your mixer to cream the butter and sugar and eggs, but for the bananas and flour mixture, use a wooden spoon and stir just to moisten for the most delicious banana bread you've ever tasted.
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 1/3 cups mashed overripe bananas
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
- Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.

These breathtaking fall wedding cakes - with tiny orange marzipan pumpkins, berries and crimson colored leaves are so comforting and now I know why. After a hot and humid summer (here in Virginia) when many of us fill up our tanks and hit the highway with our spirits high and were met with traffic, tolls and tourists at every turn, the pressure is now off to have the best vacation ever. The kids are back in school, the mosquitoes are packing up their bags (thank God), you can relax now. What about fall weddings? For every cake baker, florist and/or photographer who has been working around the clock every weekend April through June, fall weddings are much less stressful, more of a joy than a job. "Good for the baker - good for the bride."
